Jeff Garcia's Wedding Proposal: Will You Jon . . .

All it took was a reporter making links between Brett Favre and Jeff Garcia's boyfriend, Jon Gruden today. One simple question about relationship security and Vageen Garcia gets all swole.

From the Canadian Press:
"Jeff Garcia knows what's it's like to be coveted by Jon Gruden. . ."
C'mon Vageen. That's all that anyone's ever been saying. Well, some folks say you use illegal ball lubricants, but I'd like to think that has not yet been officially confirmed.

"He loves quarterbacks," Garcia said Monday. "But he likes to just date. He doesn't like to marry."
And that's a bad thing, Vageen?

"I'm going to choke it to death until somebody pulls my grip off of it."
Wow.

1st Annual Cafe 641 Superdome Dash for the 'Stache

While the rest of the Who Dat nation puzzles over how long it will take for Jeremy Shockey's mullet to grow in the fertile climate of Jackson, MS, Cafe 641 sets off on its own training camp quest.

The Dash for the 'Stache (copyright 2008, Cafe 641).

What perfect blend of human and camel hair will deliver 2008 greatness for our beloved Black and Gold? Is it the Chevron? The Walrus? Perhaps the Horseshoe? Maybe an Imperial is appropriate.

Diliberto from the grave

When you go to Heaven after you die, tell St. Peter you're a Saints fan. He'll say, 'C'mon in, I don't care what else you done, you suffered enough.' -- Buddy D, "The Point After," 10-03-04

"I have covered Super Bowls, college football championship games, the World Series in baseball, the Kentucky Derby, championship prize fights and I have been in this business for over 40 years, and nothing has ever matched the excitement and anticipation I had for the 1967 season with the New Orleans Saints."

"Since the NFL awarded New Orleans a franchise there has been a love affair with the people from this area and the team. Now, sometimes like in a marriage you get mad and you have a separation or you fall out of love for a time, but you always come back to them. The one thing you can say and never get an argument about is the fact that the Saints have given their fans many reasons to stray."
-- Buddy D, Summer 2004.

Alright, Dilly/Berto. On the eve of Who Dat 2008, Buddy speaks from his grave about the birth of his baby. Ball's in your court. Who Dat.

Holy Shit-Shockey Batman!

It's not exactly new news anymore, but Payton's hard on for Jeremey Shockey raises more questions than whether Billy Miller and Mark Campbell will still see some touches this fall (Chef votes affirmative on that one, btw).

At the top of the list is this:
What is the protocol for the Upper Terrace when dealing with a Saint who once appeared on a Cafe 641 menu?

Year of the 'Stache

Cafe 641 still has a few more weeks of off-season conditioning before its training camp kick-off event. But I left the Anheuser Busch Strength and Endurance Center early today, so I had some spare time to post this preview of our new friend in the Cafe, Fleur-de-Stache.*

Here are the Cafe 641 Save-the-Dates:

Friday, July 25: 1st Annual Cafe 641 Superdome Dash for the 'Stache
A day-long ramble through the streets of New Orleans in search of the perfect 2008 mustache, to include: a Who Dat Rosary and Novena to Saint Barbara, Patron Saint Against Lightning, recited outside the Dome, and a few select pub stops closest to our Cafe 641 friends in Mid City (perhaps Fin McCool's in honor of the Cocktail Chef) and Uptown (Fat Harry's, Dilly/Berto?).

Saturday, August 2: likely pilgrimmage to Jackson, MS for Saints Training Camp.

Saturday, August 16: Thanks Houston!

* Thanks to Chef K-Paul on the Fleur-de-Stache design.

Sit on This: A Sacredome Code of Conduct

I'm almost certain that this Saints forum hysteria is the work of a certain Grandmaster Wang, in comedic response to Fuhrer Goodell's quest for civility and the Kansas City Chief's recent behavior modification policy (quickly amended to outlaw only "continuous standing"). But in the event that the 6-pages of Saints forum guys blabbering about sitting or standing in the Dome is the byproduct of serious brain activity, Chef has an idea. Anyone who wants to occasionally sit and enjoy a civil football contest without the intrusion of inconsiderate nincompoops can have Chef's seat:
